Newcastle University seeks to appoint to the role of Clinical Professor in Neuromuscular Science & Honorary Consultant.  This is joint role between Newcastle University and Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, offering you the opportunity to work across both organisations, and to make a significant impact in both academic and clinical service domains.

As part of the vision for Neuromuscular Research in Newcastle, the Clinical Professor in Neuromuscular Sciences is established to enhance the regional contribution to neuromuscular research and education.  It will be directed to translational research in neuromuscular diseases.  The post would be of particular relevance to a scientist with a special interest in translational research in neuromuscular diseases and expertise in facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD).

You will join the John Walton Dystrophy Research Centre led by Professor Volker Straub.  In addition to being a full member of the Translational and Clinical Research Institute and Honorary Consultant within the Trust.

You will provide strategic leadership which will allow a new programme of FSHD research to develop under the umbrella of the John Walton Muscular Dystrophy Research Centre.  It will harmonise current areas of research and establish new areas.  Expertise will allow development of translational work with established Newcastle teams on other rare diseases.  You will be expected to contribute to teaching in the Faculty, additionally looking to nurture and develop neuromuscular researchers and leaders of the future.
