Clinical Teaching Fellow and Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Neurology

(Fixed Term, 12 months)

As part of its commitment to delivering high quality clinical placements to medical students, the medical school wishes to appoint a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Neurology. This replacement post will commence in August 2021 for 12 months.

The salary for this role will be 38, 694 plus £2,162 London allowance (Post 2009 Clinical Lecturer scale, nodal point 3).

Applicants are invited to apply for the post which includes teaching undergraduate medical students, supporting senior staff in curriculum development and quality assurance. This now includes, working with our experienced e-learning and educational technology teams and other clinical academics, ongoing development and supporting the delivery of a blended clinical placement model combining remote activities with those onsite, in order to be able to support student learning and wellbeing as required in response to the COVID19 pandemic. Also, where required supporting the development of a post-graduate education portfolio and undertaking clinical activities (including potentially clinical research/service improvement projects) typically with duties at CT2-ST3 level. Candidates at Core Training and above with relevant clinical neurosciences experience, an interest in undergraduate medical education are encouraged to apply. The clinical element will be tailored to the successful candidates’ needs, including the potential for additional funded clinical sessions commensurate with experience with St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

 

Applicants should demonstrate broad clinical experience and must hold full MRCP / MRCS (including PACES) or equivalent. Applicants with experience in teaching and a wish to continue a career in academic medicine would be preferred. The post is suitable for those aiming for speciality training numbers, or potentially as an out of programme experience for those already in speciality training, although funding for for ST3 level applicants and above (nodal point 4) cannot be guaranteed at the time of advertising.  If the successful applicant does not already hold a teaching qualification or equivalent, they will be expected to apply for a place on the St George’s, University of London Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare and Biomedical Education (PGCert HBE), a 12 month teaching in higher education course commencing in October 2021.

The post is not accredited for specialist training but support for study leave will be given. Therefore, post holders are encouraged to complete audit and research projects and to submit papers / posters.
