MBChB Co-Lead Acute and Critical Care

University of Leeds

Acute and Critical Care (ACC) is an integrated core unit (ICU) with the undergraduate medicine MBChB program at the University of Leeds. The undergraduate curriculum aims to produce safe, competent FY1 doctors in line with the General Medical Council’s outcomes for graduates framework.  Therefore, while ACC includes the specialties of acute medicine, anaesthesia, critical care and emergency medicine, we operate as a single unit with a combined curriculum and assessment framework.   In this way, we hope to model collaborative, patient-centred learning to our students and reduce unnecessary duplication.   The core focus of ACC remains the management of the acutely unwell patient presenting to hospital or for anaesthesia.

ACC has undergone a significant restructuring in the past five years including a new curriculum, the creation of junior fellow posts, and a new introductory week.   The formation of the co-lead role presents an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about quality medical education to expand their educational leadership and continue ACC development.
